Liberty

Liberty London tea towel designed by Studio Gardiner, celebrating the Tudor shopfront, Arthur Liberty and the history of London’s famous emporium.

Project description

Commissioned to mark the 140th anniversary of Liberty, the design draws inspiration from the store’s iconic Tudor-revival façade and its rich architectural character.

Detailed studies of the building are combined with historical notes and curious facts, bringing together multiple layers of information into a single, cohesive composition.

The aim was to capture not just the structure itself, but the story behind it — its materials, evolution, and place within London’s retail landscape.

The result is an illustrated narrative that presents the full story of Liberty, London’s finest emporium, through a balance of image and type.
